Christ Episcopal Church is a loving and welcoming church family, centrally located in the historic Monte Vista District of San Antonio, Texas. Our sanctuary is one of the most peaceful and beautiful churches in the country, but the real beauty of our church is our people. We are a large church, but with a small, familial feel and lots of ways to become involved.

Music Ministry

Music at Christ Church is central to our parish history and identity as Christ followers and worshipers. Following the biblical model, we use our talents and resources to provide a musically relevant context in which to praise and pray to God in song. Our parish life is also enhanced by opportunities to attend and participate in special music and fellowship events.

Adult Choir

The Adult Choir leads worship at the 9 & 11 a.m. Sunday services, as well as special services such as weddings, memorial services, the Good Friday "Way of the Cross" service, All Saints’ Sunday, and Lessons & Carols. They rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m., upstairs in the choir room.

If you wish to participate in the music program in any way, please contact the music director, Josh Benninger at 210-736-3132.

Children and Youth Choirs

Children and teens are a vital part of the music program at Christ Church. By joining one of our fine children’s choirs, your child will learn Scripture and God’s character through music. Many “graduated” Christ Church choir members still remember the words to songs they sang while in Children’s Choir—words of lasting value. Singing scripture as a youngster sets it in your heart for all times. So, set aside those Wednesday afternoons for your child to learn God’s word through song—it could make an eternal difference!

There are many opportunities available for youth to praise God through song and music making. Whether as a soloist or support singer/player, youth between ages 3 and 18 are invited to grow in their service to God and His church. Through the texts of songs, they are invited to increase their knowledge of Him; through meaningful worship participation opportunities, they are encouraged to offer their talents to Him; through rehearsals and outreach performances, youth enjoy community with one another as they learn lifelong skills in music.

Choral opportunities exist throughout the school year, with four choirs divided according to age:

Cherub Choir

3-year-old through PreK
Directed by Kati Wettstein-Gimon
Rehearses Wednesdays, 4:45 - 5:15 p.m. in the FMC

In the Cherub Choir, children explore music through movement, games, rhythm instruments, and singing. Choir members are introduced to music fundamental concepts such as beat, tempo, rhythm, and dynamics though a variety of games, dances, and songs. The young child’s natural senses of wonder, play, curiosity, and exploration are highly encouraged in this fun and upbeat introduction to the Children’s Music Ministry and the RSCM’s Pre Choral Training.

This choir usually sings four times per year..

Caroler Choir

Kinder and 1st grades
Directed by Tracy Clark
Rehearses Wednesdays, 4:45 - 5:30 p.m. in the FMC

As part of the RSCM’s Pre Choral Training program, children in the Caroler Choir learn about their roll in worship as members of the choir, the seasons of the church year, and are introduced to the basics of music literacy and vocal production. Through fun games, singing, and the use of rhythm instruments, the choir members learn basic music symbols and their meaning, as well as explore beat, tempo, dynamics, and musical expression. Appropriate vocal and rhythmic awareness is developed through breathing, singing, and musical games.

This choir usually sings four times per year.

Sanctuary Choir

2nd though 5th grades
Directed by Jennifer Holloway
Rehearses Wednesdays, 4:45 - 5:30 p.m. in the FMC

As part of the RSCM’s Choral Training program, children in the Sanctuary Choir learn and explore music theory, aural skills, and vocal development through singing, the use of instruments, and lots of games. With an emphasis on fun, the Sanctuary Choir members learn the fundamentals of reading music and the joy of making music together for God. Hymn studies, seasons of the church year, and the parts of the worship service are also parts of their choir education.

This choir usually sings six times per year, including joining the Youth and Adult Choirs in our Lessons and Carols celebration.

Youth Choir

6th-12th grades
Directed by Jennifer Holloway
Rehearses Sundays, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. in the Choir Room

Our Youth Choir members learn to understand their importance as liturgical leaders as they continue to develop their musical skills through the RSCM’s Choral Training program and the Voice for Life curriculum. Though singing together, our choristers develop a lifelong appreciation for music, an understanding of their importance in the worship service, and valuable leadership skills.

This choir usually sings 6 times per year, including joining the Youth and Adult Choirs in our Lessons and Carols celebration.
