Church LifeFriday services will continue with Morning Prayer at 11:30 AM followed by quiet prayer time and special organ music at noon. Noontime organ music provided by Madolyn Fallis and Mary Ann Winden.
Regular Prayer Meeting for Christ Church and furthering the cause of Christ, every Wednesday, 11:00 to 11:30 AM in the sanctuary.
September 9-11: Blessing Without Borders Conference. On September 9-11 (Thursday noon through Saturday) Christ Church will be hosting the Blessing Without Borders Conference, which is sponsored by the Diocese of West Texas and its Reconciliation Commission. Led by the Rev. Eric Law of the Kaleidoscope Institute, the conference will offer training in developing the skills and tools that are needed to effectively minister in a diverse and changing world, especially multicultural ministry. This conference will be invaluable for those who have an interest in missions or outreach. September 12: Rally Day and Ministry Fair
All Aboard the Good Ship Christ Church! We need all hands on deck for our Rally Day and Ministry Fair, Sunday, September 12 at 9:00 AM on the parish lawn to see what we will be offering in Sunday school classes for all ages, meet Sunday school teachers, and sign up to be part of these light-giving groups. Also, come see what great opportunities are available for you to serve as a light in our community through Christ Church outreach and missions. A seaworthy breakfast will be served on the lawn for all, so come enjoy food and fellowship with your shipmates. Children’s activities including Noah’s Ark Petting Zoo will be present to delight our little sailors. We will all join together for worship in church and children’s chapel at 10:15. Fall Sunday school will begin full steam ahead on Sunday, September 19, for all ages.
September 15: The Chi Rho Bookstore at Christ Episcopal Church presents Nativa – Fine Mexican Clothing. Colorful, beautiful, hand-embroidered clothing for everyday San Antonio life. Wednesday, September 15, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Parish Hall. Benefits the outreach programs of the Chi Rho shop.
September 21: The Daughters of the King will have their first meeting of the fall on Tuesday, September 21 at 12:00 PM in the Capers Room. Please remember that your dues need to be paid at this meeting. We are working on finding a speaker for our gathering, so please stay tuned. Visitors are always welcome.
September 26: Blood Drive at Christ Church on Sunday, Sept. 26, 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM in the parking lot. All presenting donors will receive a thank you gift. Also, if you donated blood last time the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center was at Christ Church, you will qualify for a $20 HEB gift card. September 30: Ladies - Hearts and Hands invites women of all ages to our annual Fall Fiesta. We will officially welcome the Freys, as well as honor the Barretts and the Kitayamas. Mark your calendars and make plans to attend this fun event on Thursday, September 30, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Tomatillos on Broadway. For $16 per person, you will enjoy hearty appetizers, tea, and soft drinks. A cash bar will be available for all other purchases. This fun event is very casual, but reservations are requested. Please mail your check (payable to CEC, but marked for Hearts & Hands) to the church, attention Cherelle, or just drop the check off in the church office. We hope to see you there - come and bring a friend!
October 4: Christ Church to host Life Line Screening. We are pleased to offer preventive health screening in collaboration with Life Line Screening. The screenings will be offered on Monday, October 4, 2010 and test for stroke risk, vascular disease, and bone density. October 7: Bishop Frey will lead Women's Bible Study
We are excited to announce that Bishop Frey will lead us in a Bible study on the Gospel of John. The study will take place on Thursday mornings in the Parish Hall from 10:00 until 11:30 AM and will be a combination of lecture and small discussion groups. There will even be coffee and light refreshments a little early so that we can have a time of fellowship and visit with old and new friends. October 14: Luncheon with Barbara Frey. Barbara Frey has graciously agreed to be our guest speaker at a Hearts and Hands luncheon following the second Women’s Bible Study meeting on Thursday, October 14th. It will be held in the Parish Hall from approximately 12:00-1:30 PM. Liz and our Christ Church volunteers always prepare a delicious meal, and it is always a blessing to hear a lively, encouraging and gifted speaker like Barbara. Again, all are invited, and you do not need to be registered in the Bible study to join us for the luncheon. Details to follow on price and reservations, so set aside the time on your calendar now!
November 12: The Bishop’s Golf Classic 2010, Friday, November 12 at Canyon Springs Golf Club. This annual golf tournament benefits the youth of the diocese. All proceeds go to the scholarship fund for children’s camps and youth events. Entry fee is $135/player and includes one mulligan and one camp toss, snack buffet, tournament awards dinner, and a driving range and putting green for warm up. January 22, 2011: A Christ Church New Member’s Class will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This class is for adults old and new who are interested in exploring the meaning of faith in Jesus Christ and how they can grow at Christ Church. This day will also provide instruction for those wishing to be confirmed, received or reaffirmed when the bishop visits in the spring. If you are planning to come, contact Cherelle, 736-3132 or cherellel@cecsa.org, so that we can have materials for everyone. Childcare will be provided should you desire it.
